I’ve recently been helping clients get hooked up to twitter and as easy as the user guides are for many of the savvy internet users, it’s not so easy for everyone else. There are many people that don’t use the refresh button on browsers and my guide helps with this oversight. I wrote this guide for a client tonight and it points them to refresh buttons when the browser doesn’t refresh on it’s own. I deleted my twitter mobile configuration tonight and then took screen shots and placed hints in places to help the user know when to refresh if the twitter application didn’t do this for them automatically. Configure Your Mobile For Twitter.

I just finishing watching a breakfast meeting from the Kansas City Social Media Club and there was a woman speaking about being the social media face for her company. And while I believe people trust people over brand logos, I wonder what happens when this generation Y employee decides to seek greener pastures? Let’s face it the younger you are the more likely you are to make career moves. Will the employee have some level of job security if the social media trends are great and job scrutiny if the trends are low?
How do you hire a Social Media Community Manager? Do you give them a personality test? Do you grade them on their sense of humor and wit? Because let’s face it not all people in the social media environment are interesting. And more importantly, not everyone knows what “to say” and “not to say” in a social media forum. People have been fired from their jobs because they’ve made mistakes in communications through message boards, instant messaging and emails. David George-Cosh, a National Post technology reporter freaked out in Twitter when a marketing consultant was tardy in calling him back for an interview. And while
The social media industry will be interesting to watch and monitor in the next couple of years. Be certain that people will be placed under the microscope for the messages they send out as individuals and as organizations.

I’ve been checking out ventwits.com and from my inital review, this service “could” create a richer twitter experience. Check out this quote from @igniter:
Developed by Shouldless Inc. (^shldlss), VenTwits is a site for people building things they care about. We believe there is something special about communications that happen in public, 140 characters at a time. It seems to encourage a unique breadth and practicality of engagement such as the #hohoto party in Toronto. #hohoto emerged through Twitter (see SlideShare preso) and within 18 days of the first mention was sold-out to over 600 people, raised $25,000 in cash and 2 tonnes of food for Toronto’s Daily Bread Foodbank. All this without any one leader or cash investment – rather it leveraged parallel leadership from over a dozen people and the contributions of countless more. What if we could leverage what happened there?IGNITER, Feb 2009
