I was given an awesome opportunity by my organization to attend the MAP Management Action Plan (MAP) experience. In business, accountability is always difficult because some people want it and others do not.
I was pleasantly surprise when I visited the MAP web site to find out the Dean of Students from San Jose State University; Bruce R. Magid, Ph.D.Dean attended the MAP workshop and is now running the campus.
I graduated from SJSU and because I was dedicated, I learned a large volume of information in a short period of time. My degree in Management Information Systems was focused on the business application of MIS. SJSU was the pioneer in 1996 for this hybrid model. While I do not have much updated information on SJSU, the MAP experience was awesome and it is a pleasure to know that my University has been through the MAP program

I have been researching and starting to build a performance based pay-per-click model that is not outsourced to India. Not many people in the SEM industry are willing to give up information on how they create and execute performance based models. What I have heard that makes a ton of sense is; why would anyone want a performance based model if they have to pay more? Traditional pricing allows for a company to receive services and in return generate leads.
If an agency said to me, “What is the dollar amount of a lead in reference to costs of advertising?” PPC Performance Based Model would be a dream because print and television advertising is so expensive. But take just PPC and ask what the lead is worth. If I have 1000 keywords for one ad campaign and only a few of the keywords generate a profit, then why do I have 1000 keywords in an ad campaign in the first place?

I attended the Search Engine Strategies conference in San Jose in August. While there were so many sessions that I truly enjoyed, the one that truly stood out was the SEM Via Communities. As a protocol, I always ask questions because well, if you don’t ask questions you don’t get answers. I am very interested in the ability to make money through blogging. A colleague of mine introduced me to payperpost.com and well I like the concept. It bridges the gap between advertisers and bloggers. Giving the bloggers the ability to choose what they want to write about and receive cash in return. And lets face it advertisers are always looking for way to find advocates for their products.
Will my blog become an advertisers dream, maybe, but I have a lot of content to write! Hopefully my strategies will work and if not, I will change them, just like the SEM industry changes as well.

Too many times I see junk code. Have the fundamentals of programming been dismissed? I am not a super awesome coder, but I know junk code when I see it. Style sheets that sit on top of style sheet and don’t utilize #id are just a few symptoms of poorly executed code or code generated by a content management system (CMS). Using a CMS system can be a huge advantage however, the majority of systems I have evaluated create messy code and there is little a programmer can do to clean the code up without writing product enhancements. Is there a CMS that generates clean HTML?

How does anyone really know what is working at what is not working in the SEM industry. Let’s face it; analytics is the need to determine what is working and what is not. The problem with analytics packages is no normalizing of the data.
Since I’m some what technical, I can say that if any package has an “import” logs and can’t filter out the crap you really can’t get a good picture of performance. There is nothing more frustrating than taking in clients’ analytics logs and trying to make a rhyme or reason behind them. I mean really, log files, shoot me, call me dead and then let’s just normalize and become normal! Where is this industry going?
So, Google has the big dog brand behind them, but really free analytics, what is that? Let’s pretend to be the client, “Wow thanks for the great graphs but what does that mean?” Can you say,”Good billable work?” Google, Yahoo! and MSN will get this and slowly in their quest for market share they will figure out that competing wastes dollars and collaborating makes profits!
